Olay makes easy-open, winged lids for its face creams for people with disabilities

Patriot-News - 11/4/2021

Olay North America has introduced easy-open lids that include Braille text for four of its most popular products.

“Fifteen percent of the world’s population lives with a disability, yet these individuals are often excluded from the beauty industry both in representation and product offerings,” said Olay in a news release.

The easy-open winged caps, Braille text, extra grip raised lid and high-contrast label will be incorporated into the design for Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, Vitamin C + Peptide 24 Face Moisturizer, Retinol 24 Face Moisturizer and Collagen Peptide 24 Face Moisturizer.

Olay said to design the lid, it met “with consumers with a wide range of conditions, from dexterity issues and limb differences, to chronic issues causing joint pain and vision impairments. The team also met with external experts and incorporated personal experiences from team members into the new product design.”

Olay said it also will share the design with the beauty industry.

“Accessibility makes things better for everyone,” says journalist and model Madison Lawson who is living with muscular dystrophy. She is one of the key members with whom Olay worked closely with to bring this jar to life.

“Everyone’s been there where you get product on your hands or you’re trying to open something and you can’t, so I think it’s cool that this is designed with us specifically in mind but it also makes everyone’s life better.”

The face creams with the new lids are available only on the Olay “Open to Change” website.

The lid is free with the purchase of any of the four face creams. (After you add the face cream to your shopping bag online, you will be asked if you want the free easy-open lid).
