Coronavirus vaccines start for 2,000 Williamson County seniors in nursing homes, long-term care

Austin American-Statesman - 1/5/2021

More than 2,000 residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities in Williamson County are starting to get a coronavirus vaccine.

"Williamson County has been working diligently with state and private sector partners to get more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to the most vulnerable populations and those eligible to receive the vaccine," county officials said in a news release.

It said the distribution of the vaccine to 14 long-term care and nursing home facilities in the county was made possible with the collaboration of CVS Pharmacy and Walgreens and support from state leaders.

“From the beginning I have stated that our seniors are our most valuable population, and they are the group of people who have suffered the greatest loss of life in our county and country," said Williamson County Judge Billl Gravel. "That is why we are using every resource available to protect them."

The vaccine is voluntary for the 2,020 seniors living in nursing homes and long-term facilities, officials said.
