The MainStreet Messenger is an emergency alert system telephone with special features to facilitate its use by persons with visual, hearing, mobility, and/or dexterity disabilities. In an emergency, the telephone automatically dials pre-set help numbers (such as 911, neighbors, friends, relatives, or a professional monitoring facility) until a connection is made. An alert button is found on the telephone and on a waterproof pendant worn by the user. When either button is pressed, the emergency help dial sequence is initiated. Once a connection is made with a confirmation tone, the speakerphone is activated to allow hands-free, two-way voice communication. The speakerphone has extended voice range and a volume range of 20db. Daily activity monitoring, when selected, will activate the emergency dialing sequence automatically if no activity of the user's phone is detected within a pre- set time period (12, 18, or 24 hours). MONITORING: There are 3 monitoring possibilities: Professional Monitoring Mode, Community Monitoring Mode, or a combination of both. There is a monthly fee for professional monitoring; with this mode, if the user pushes the alert button the Security Monitoring Center or another professional facility will be contacted. With community monitoring, the numbers of friends, family, or neighbors are programmed and the system dials these in sequence until a connection is made when the alert is activated. There are no fees for monthly community monitoring. Combination monitoring allows for several personal numbers to be dialed first in the event of an emergency; if no connection is made, then a professional service is contacted.
