23 new COVID cases found in Rensselaer County Saturday; 18 of them at Castleton nursing home, county says

Jul. 12--RENSSELAER COUNTY -- Rensselaer County saw 23 new COVID-19 cases confirmed Sunday, 19 of them linked to the Riverside Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Castleton, the county said.
The cases at Riverside include 18 residents and one employee at the home. Of the four others, two were linked to travel to North Carolina, the county said.
The governor's office Sunday also noted the 23 new positives in a release Sunday, but said a number of them were being investigated "as being linked to several individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 after traveling back to New York from Georgia," the governor's release read. A statement from Rensselaer County did not mention Georgia.

The new cases confirmed in Rensselaer County compare to eight new cases found in Schenectady County, seven in Saratoga County, and 11 found in Albany County.
The Capital Region's positive rate Saturday hit 2 percent, the highest percentage among any of the state's regions, the next highest being New York City at 1.3 percent, the governor's office said. The Capital Region had been at 0.7 percent Thursday and 1.2 percent Friday.
The new confirmed cases at Riverside in Rensselaer County bring the total number of positives there among residents to 30, the county said. Twelve had been identified as of Friday. Also, nine more employees have also tested positive, the county said.
Statewide, the county saw 667 new positives off of 62,418 tests performed Saturday.
The new cases at Riverside range in age from their 60s (six) to a 101 year old, the county said. Three are in their 70s, six in their 80s and two in their 90s, the county said.
Of the other five new cases, two are Troy residents, one an employee at Riverside and a Schodack woman, 54, and an East Greenbush woman, 21. The Schodack and East Greenbush women each tested positive after recent travel to North Carolina, the county said. The county did not say if they traveled together or separately.
In all, Rensselaer County has seen 667 confirmed cases and currently has 63 active cases, the county said.

The county did not indicate the status of those who newly tested positive, but said that overall, six residents are hospitalized and none are in the ICU.
The governor's office, in its general Sunday release, indicated it is closely monitoring the uptick in Rensselaer County and indicated Rensselaer County is conducting contact tracing.
