Jewish Disability Advocacy Day includes South Florida delegation
South Florida Sun Sentinel - 2/12/2020
A delegation of Jewish advocates from South Palm Beach and Broward counties participated in the 10th annual Jewish Disability Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C.
The South Palm Beach and Broward delegates had the opportunity to learn from public policy experts, hear from members of Congress and meet with their local representatives in support of pieces of legislation affecting people with disabilities during JDAD.
Emily Grabelsky, chair of the Jewish Federations of North America’s National Disability Committee who also led the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County Special Needs Initiative, presented former U.S. Sen Tom Harkin with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in supporting people with disabilities. In 1990, Harkin introduced into the Senate the Americans with Disabilities Act, which became law 30 years ago.
The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County also has a Jewish Abilities Alliance online resource guide as part of its Special Needs Initiative as well as the availability of a special needs community liaison to provide information to individuals with disabilities and their families.
