The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights seeks bilingual volunteers who want to make a difference in the life of a child. The Young Center is a non-profit organization that provides Child Advocates for unaccompanied children who are placed in federal detention because of their immigration status. These children face the complicated immigration court system alone while separated from their family and loved ones. A Child Advocate stands by the child’s side and advocates for the child’s best interests. A Child Advocate meets with the child they are assigned on a weekly basis. The Child Advocate learns the child’s story, accompanies the child through the immigration process and works in collaboration with a Young Center attorney or social worker to identify and advocate for the best interests for the child. The Young Center is hosting a volunteer training on Saturday and Sunday, June 29th and 30th, 2019. If you would like to register for the training or learn more about the Young Center’s work, please contact Danielle at DSalgado@theyoungcenter.org or 956-230-1850. You may also visit the Frequently Asked Questions section of the Young Center website to learn more about the Young Center and the role of a Child Advocate at http://theyoungcenter.org/learn/faqs/.
