Navability

Navability is an accessible mapping tool designed for people with mobility disabilities. The tool uses data from fitness watches and user input to identify accessible footpaths in communities. By taking into account the user’s ability, which they provide via the app, the user can assess the effort required to travel the path. Navability algorithms use the wheelchairs maneuverability, the environment (gradient, surface and obstacles) and the user’s propulsion ability to calculate the best route through the landscape. Every Navability map and/or path reflects a user’s travel ability and effort as a distinct color. Navability selects paths to keep a user in a zone of their choosing to limit difficulty, either to a user’s physical energy a power chair’s battery life. Users can continually assess travel paths throughout the day to make necessary adjustments.
