This Letter Recognition Sensory Bin is designed for autistic children to be given enough sensory input and tactile stimulation to learn to recognize and name letters.

Supplies: 

  • Bin or Tub
  • Rice
  • Measuring
  • ABC Puzzle
  • Top Sheet

Step One: Gather supplies (above).

Step Two: First, put down a top sheet to help contain the mess a bit.

Step Three: Then take the bin or tub, fill it with the rice, throw in the measuring cups.

Step Four: Finally, empty the ABC puzzle pieces to the bin and move the rice around a bit to bury some of the puzzle pieces.

Activities:

Option 1. The child searches for and finds the treasure.

Option 2. The child names the letters they find and what colors are.

Option 3. The child finds letters to build sight words.
