This Bread Tie Ghost Craft is a DIY sensory bin made for developing children to explore textures through play. The sensory bin can be used to in occupational therapy settings to provide a calming period in a sensory diet or lifestyle. A sensory bin provides an opportunity for the body to slow down, and can be relaxing for a child who is overstimulated or hypersensitive to his or her environment.

Technical Specifications: 

Step One: Gather materials.

  • Bowl.
  • Bread ties (from the grocery store).
  • Sensory bin filler (black beans, shredded paper, dyed rice, pumpkin seeds, dry split peas, cotton balls, sand, etc.).

Step Two: Make the ghosts using the bread ties by drawing two dots with the permanent marker for eyes on some and X's (as a mouth) on others for the "sick" ghosts.

Step Three: Fill the bowl with the sensory bin filler.

Step Four: Put the ghosts in the bowl.

Step Five: Explore/play/touch/feel.
