Paint Chip Color Matching Activity

Paint Chip Color Matching Activity is a do it yourself (DIY) activity to be done in a special education or preschool classroom by children with autism or with low vision who are learning colors.

Technical Specifications: 

 Step One: Gather materials.

  • Eight clothespins
  • Permanent marker
  • Eight paint chips
  • 1 Free paint stick
  • Sixteen paint chip tags (2 green, 2 orange, 2 yellow, 2 purple, 2 red, 2 blue, 2 brown, and 2 white)
  • Glue

Step Two: Glue the eight assorted colored strips of paint chips to the paint stick, leaving a little “handle” so it can be held in one hand. 

Step Three: Cut out matching paint chip tags.

Step Four: Glue the matching paint chip tags to regular sized clothespins.

Step Five: Teacher holds the paint stick and allows the student to read, match, and say the colors by attaching the matching clothespins to the paint stick’s paint chips.
