It is designed for blind or low vision people. Cooking, safety aid, and general purpose talking digital thermometer. Designed primarily as a cooking aid, it can also be used around the home to measure your refrigerator, freezer, oven, air conditioning/heating ducts, bath water and much more, all without contact. Also includes a unique scan mode to locate a hot burner on a flat cook top stove. Simply point at a nearby object and press the temperature button to instantly hear it's temperature.

The IRT-1 Talking Infrared Thermometer uses infrared energy to measure an object's temperature, with a range of -94 to 716 degrees Fahrenheit. It has a built in talking tutor and can speak in 3 languages; English, Spanish, and French. It is handheld, battery powered (2 AA cells) that last about 1 year in ordinary usage. It has 3 buttons for operation, Temperature (to measure temperature), Scan (to locate a hot object), and Mode (to change language, or Fahrenheit to Centigrade). It weighs just 5 ounces and is about 5 1/2 inches long.
