Foam Tubing Utensils are designed for individuals with upper extremity disabilities to allow them to grasp utensils, making it easier for them to feed themselves. They are made by drilling holes into 1/2 inch foam tubing. The hole inside the tubing should be made small enough to fit snuggly on the handle of a fork, knife, and/or spoon and the tubing should be cut to the length of the handle of the fork, knife, and/or spoon. This allows people with limited dexterity to eat using a for, knife, or spoon that is not easy to initially hold. This do-it-yourself product shows potential to stimulate those with neurological disorders while making it physically easier to hold utensils for people with reduced grip strength.
