---- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To design a prototype of a sleep positioner for children with disabilities, particularly those children who experience muscle tension and loss of muscle tone. Doze is a sleep positioner that assists with side-lying posture at bedtime. The pod-like design decreases the risk of sleeping in awkward positions that may interfere with growth, put pressure on the spine, as well as affect air flow resulting in breathing problems. The Doze design is inspired by the armadillo with its interlocking, overlapping plates that form rigid shields over the shoulders and hips banding together to cover the head, back, buttocks, and legs. To use the Doze device the child is placed in an upright sitting position and secured in the place straps. The device is then placed on its side with the child inside and a pillow is placed between the child’s legs. Finally the top and tail supports are attached. The system can be adjusted to the body, extended for growth, and rotated to switch sides. TITLE: Doze. WEBSITE: Yanko Design. REF:
