The OptiPush is a wheelchair propulsion monitor designed for professional use in clinical or research settings with people with mobility and lower extremity disabilities and spinal cord injury and others who use wheelchairs. This device examines wheelchair propulsion in the natural environment of the wheelchair user because it mounts directly to most standard manual wheelchairs (a wheelchair is required but not included). The system comes with wheels and hand rims with diameters from 24 to 26 inches; 20- to 23-inch wheels are available. It is paired with weight and size-matched non-instrumented wheels. Instant analysis of the user’s push cadence, peak force and torque, impact, and smoothness is transmitted through Bluetooth communication between the device and a computer (not included) with the included software installed. The software also provides data sampling at 200 Hz, a multi-axis load cell with 0.25 N resolution, and push by push results along with a live 5-push average and a performance target line. The built-in PDF report generator allows the user to run diagnostic analyses.
