NVDA is a screen reader program and braille output program designed to read computer screens for persons who are blind, deaf blind or have low vision. NVDA installs its own speech synthesizer software, eSpeak, that supports 20 languages. Interactive talking installation makes it easy to set up without sighted assistance. All standard Windows applications, including web browsers, email clients, internet chat programs and office suites, are supported without the need for special configuration. It also supports common accessibility interfaces such as Microsoft Active Accessibility, Java Access Bridge, IAccessible2 and UI Automation as well as Windows Command Prompt and console applications. Most refreshable braille displays are supported. NVDA announces of textual formatting where available such as font name and size, style and spelling errors, and it automatically announces text under the mouse. The user may also choose to have NVDA indicate the mouse position audibly. NVDA can also be run entirely from a USB stick or other portable media without the need for installation. NVDA is an open source application so the user can contribute or modify the code to meet his/her individual needs. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: A computer running a 32-bit and 64-bit version of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 (including Server operating Systems); 256 megabytes (MB) or more of RAM with a processor speed of 1.0 gigahertz (ghz) or above; 50 MB of available hard disk space.
