---- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To create a prototype voice-controlled wheelchair which allows individuals with mobility disabilities and unable to physically maneuver a joystick control to navigate a powered-wheelchair. First, the individual uses the speaker independent mode, the speech software is trained in the use of a few words that will help the user get around. After training, the voice-controlled wheelchair is switched over to voice input mode, and then all the comparison between vocal commands from the user are performed and then stored in the memory. This prototype voice-controlled wheelchair is different from other similar system in that it can be converted into a bed for the user. This action can be performed without any manual effort by using voice commands. A fail-safe keypad control is included so if the vocal system fails the user has backup controls for the wheelchair. Additionally, the voice-controlled wheelchair has obstacle detection software. The system is nice, lightweight, efficient, manipulable, and very beneficial to individuals with mobility disabilities.
