The Tobii C8 is a direct selection communicator designed for use by individuals with cognitive, communication, or speech disabilities. This tablet-computer-based communicator uses Windows Vista Home Premium and features touch screen access, an IntelCore Duo U2500 processor, 2 gigabytes (GB) RAM, a 60 GB hard drive, two USB 2.0 ports, and an integrated desk stand. Other features include 2 integrated speakers, 2 integrated microphones, a 1 GB SD card and a built-in camera with 640 x 480 pixels. Users can communicate via text or symbols to generate synthesized or digitized speech for face-to-face interaction or through email, text messages or chat. The device offers word processing, and MP3 video capability, and supports other Windows-based software.
