Wiggleworks Classic is a reading tutorial program designed for use by children with learning disabilities. The program includes interactive books with scaffolded reading support and engaging activities, plus audio recordings on CD-ROM, a teaching plan for each title, a Phonics Teaching Guide, an Assessment Guide, and Benchmark Books. There are 84 books in the collection, which introduce children to a range of genres, such as realistic fiction, nonfiction, and folktales, and help children discover the joy of reading with appealing characters and delightful pictures by some of their favorite authors and illustrators, including Norman Bridwell, Eve Bunting, Pat Cummings, Alma Flor Ada, and Virginia Kroll. Books are leveled in four stages, A, B, C, and D, which move students from beginning reading to independent reading. Within each stage, there are three graduated levels of books to meet the needs of every student. Working with the appropriately leveled books and corresponding CD-ROMs, students are equipped to build essential reading skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
