Maestro is a voice output personal digital assistant (PDA) designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This is an HP iPAQ Pocket PC made accessible by means of a text-to-speech application and a tactile keyboard membrane over the PDA touch screen. Functions include a calendar, contact list, notetaking, and access to text files. Notes can be taken directly using the tactile keyboard or an external wireless braille or alphabetic keyboard. Files can be transferred to and from a personal computer. The PDA comes with a suite of PC Windows-based applications, including an electronic agenda and contact manager, text notetaking, vocal notes, and synchronization to PC MS Office applications. It has an expansion slot for Secure Digital I/O (SD) cards. Audio output is through an internal speaker or a stereo jack and headset. Audio input is through a microphone. It has a USB port, 400 MHz processor, 64 MB (megabytes) SDRAM memory (55 MB user accessible), and 32 MB Flash ROM. POWER: Uses batteries or AC (alternating current) adapter.
