HIMS Chat is a communicator program designed for use by that allows people with or without disabilities to communicate with individuals who are deaf blind using an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. This application (or app) facilitates face-to-face communication between the deaf-blind person and another person via a Bluetooth connection between an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, and a Braille Sense notetaker (Braille Sense U2, OnHand or U2 QWERTY) or a Braille EDGE 40 braille display and keyboard (see separate entries). For the mobile device and braille device to be connected, the mobile device must have the Voiceover feature enabled, and the mobile device user must then pair with the braille device by inputting matching numeric codes when prompted. The deaf blind user must activate “Terminal Mode” on his or her braille device and select "Bluetooth with VoiceOver" as connection type. Once the devices are paired, the braille device's output is displayed on the mobile device's screen similar to an instant message or chat, and the mobile device's text output appears on the braille device's braille display. HIMS Chat includes an on-screen keyboard and built-in and user-created macros for entry of common phrases using keystrokes. The braille device vibrates to alert the deaf blind person when the sighted person sends a message on the Apple device, and the conversation continues back and forth. Conversations can be saved for later reading. COMPATIBILITY: For use with the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, and the listed HIMS braille devices. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Apple iOS 5.1 or later.
