---- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To create a prototype walking cane that integrates current “smart” technologies such as GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth to allow a person with walking or mobility disabilities to navigate his or her environment without having to hold an additional device. Fujitsu engineers integrated a variety of technology into a cane, including 3G, GPS, WiFi Bluetooth and an LED display in the handle. This cane uses GPS to guide the user without the use of an additional smartphone in the other hand, integrates a small heart rate monitor into the handle, and it includes wireless connectivity making it possible for caretivers or medical staff to monitor heart rate, ambient temperature, and count steps walked.
