Read:OutLoud is a voice output and reading tutorial program designed for use by students with learning disabilities, dyslexia, or low vision. The user opens a file or browses the Internet and clicks “speak.” The program reads the content aloud in human-sounding voices. Read:Outloud can read text in the following formats: PDF, DAISY 3, Microsoft “Save As Daisy,” Bookshare files, Rich Text Format (RTF), .txt, HTML, XML, and Pearson’s HTMLbook format. Words are highlighted onscreen as they are read. The program includes an accessible web browser and a variety of templates designed to help students use comprehension strategies when reading. The eHighlighters tool helps capture critical facts and information with green, red and yellow hightlighters. The Bibliographer function helps students create their own bibliography using electronic articles on the Web, books or other resources. Read:OutLoud will create an outline when students highlight text, and students can arrange the contents of the outline as well as add to and modify text in the outline.
