BRIEF: Arc of Greater New Orleans helps with job readiness

The Advocate - 10/24/2018

Oct. 24--As part of its services for people with intellectual disabilities, Arc of Greater New Orleans helps them learn to present themselves in job interviews.

Arc of Greater New Orlean's pre-employment training class is called Independence, Confidence, Ability & Need, or I-CAN. A round of practice job interviews was held recently in the nonprofit's Metairie Community Center, followed by evaluations to help clients identify their strengths and weaknesses.

In addition to the pre-employment class, Louisiana Rehabilitation Services contracts with ArcGNO to provide job coaching and placement for other those with intellectual disabilities such as autism and Down syndrome. Through its Supported Employment Services, ArcGNO has placed dozens of participants in jobs at Rouses and McDonald's, as well as local hotels, a veterinary clinic, and a retail and distribution company.
