Free event provides networking opportunities for those with disabilities

The Waxahachie Daily Light - 9/18/2018

Sept. 18--DALLAS

The Dallas Mayor's Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities will host its ninth annual employAbility job fair at the Sheraton Downtown Dallas Hotel on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. -- 2:00 p.m.

The event promotes the hiring of those with disabilities and serves as a critical resource for North Texas residents, providing job seekers the opportunity to meet hiring representatives from more than 50 nationally recognized companies, including AT&T, American Airlines, Bank of America, Lennox, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and many more.

Participating employers recognize the importance of diversity in the workplace and the many benefits of hiring people with disabilities. Attendees will have the chance to network with leading North Texas companies such as UT Southwestern Medical Center, Walgreens, Tom Thumb and more, and can participate in educational classes featuring interviewing tips and resume reviews. Additionally, Attitudes & Attire will host a class on wearing the right clothes for the right job. Texas Workforce Solutions will also have a mobile workforce unit with computer and internet access to apply for jobs on site. There will be over 30 Walgreen's managers at the fair that will be conducting mock interviews.

"This job fair provides hundreds of North Texas job seekers the opportunity to meet with employers and access to employment opportunities," said Beth West, employAbility Board Chair. "The goal of this job fair each year is to highlight the unique skill set and vibrancy of each and every attendee. Some of our best and brightest stars have come from employAbility, so we're excited for another year."

While at first glance a disability can overshadow the full potential of an individual, employers who take a more knowledgeable perspective see beyond the disability and find a unique skill set that benefits their organization. This event serves to educate the Dallas-Fort Worth business community about building a diverse workforce by valuing people with different abilities.
