2 R.I. companies make national list of inclusive workplaces for people with disabilities

Providence Journal - 7/10/2018

July 10--PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Two companies with offices in Rhode Island have been named to the national list of the 126 "Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion," a recognition of excellence for hiring, supporting and promoting individuals living with disabilities.

Tufts Health Plan, with an office at 75 Fountain St., and CVS Health, headquartered in Woonsocket, join AT&T, Facebook, Microsoft, The Walt Disney Company, Walgreens, Walmart and others on the list of 126, compiled by a joint initiative between the American Association of People with Disabilities and the U.S. Business Leadership Network.

"We are very proud to receive this distinction, as it showcases our constant efforts to foster an inclusive workforce," Lydia Greene, Tufts Health Plan's senior vice president and chief human resources officer, told The Journal. "At Tufts Health Plan, diversity and inclusion are core elements of our mission, values, and corporate strategy ..."

Lisa Bisaccia, executive vice president and chief human resources officer for CVS Health said her company is "focused on breaking down the employment barriers that individuals with disabilities face. We believe our colleagues and customers, of all abilities, are what help our company and the communities we serve grow and thrive."

The list of 126 constitutes an annual Disability Equality Index, described by the joint disability and business initiative as a ranking that "measures key performance indicators across organizational culture, leadership, accessibility, employment, community engagement, support services and supplier diversity."

Helena Berger, president and CEO of the American Association of People with Disabilities, said: "While we have made great strides since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the number of disabled individuals getting hired has not significantly increased. The [Disability Equality Index] was created to help advance employment opportunities and outcomes for people with disabilities."
