Hospital to host Alzheimer's and dementia seminar

The Sanders County Clark Fork Valley Hospital is putting on a Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Seminar Scheduled this May.

Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60 to 80 percent of dementia cases. One in 10 Americans over the age of 65 has Alzheimer's.

According to statistics between 2017 and 2025 every state is expected to see at least a 14 percent rise in the prevalence of Alzheimer's.

Clark Fork Valley Hospital is partnering with Jennifer Crowley (a Certified Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Trainer and Certified Dementia Practitioner) through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners NCCDP, as well as the Alzheimer's Association, to bring an Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Seminar to the county.

The training happens over the course of two days in four-hour sessions Thursday, May 17 and Friday, May 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Both seminar days will be held at the Clark Fork Valley Hospital Event Center.

The seminar is open to anyone, especially caregivers and professionals working and providing care to individuals with Alzheimer's disease and Dementia.

The course will cover a variety of topics ranging from dementia behaviors, communication, caregiving and personal care for with Alzheimer's and Dementia, staff and family support, spiritual care and end of life planning.

If you are unable to commit to a full two days of training or need something a little less intensive with basic information, a brief two-hour community forum will be offered Friday May 18 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Clark Fork Valley Hospital Event Center.

The short intensive will allow an hour of education about Alzheimer's and Dementia followed by a question and answer session with the trainers.
