Remember for Me to host luncheon

Greenville Herald-Banner - 3/17/2018

March 16--The day-in, day-out struggle of caring for a loved one who suffers from Alzheimer's or dementia is an emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually draining ordeal, but it's a labor of love.

In an effort to both give caregivers a bit of a break and also offer an opportunity for them to expand their support network, local Alzheimer's awareness and support organization Remember for Me will invite several local caregivers to its first Alzheimer's Caregiver Appreciation Luncheon at the Texan Theater Tuesday, at 11 a.m.

Two organizations that have become community partners with Remember for Me, the Dallas chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and the NCTCOG (North Central Texas Council of Governments) Area Agency on Aging, will have information tables set up at the luncheon.

The Alzheimer's Association helps Remember for Me with much of its staff training, caregiver education and speakers for support groups and an upcoming Alzheimer's education symposium on Sept. 11.

"Alzheimer's means learning to say two goodbyes, maybe three ... but Alzheimer's is not an 'alone disease.'" said Julie Horn, one of Remember for Me's co-founders, at November's Go Purple Rally. "Awareness also means asking for help."

The event is by invitation only, but anyone interested in learning about the support Remember for Me offers are welcome to contact Julie Horn at 903-413-0525.
