MERIL to offer preparedness campout

St. Joseph News-Press - 3/10/2018

March 10--Midland Empire Resources for Independent Living is planning an overnight job preparedness campout for disabled youth this summer.

The campout, entitled "Follow Your Dreams," is open to high school students from 16 to 21 years of age who will return to school the following fall.

The campout will be held Saturday, June 9, to Sunday, June 10, at the MERIL offices, 4420 S. 40th St. in St. Joseph.

Lisa Gabriel, MERIL youth and transition specialist, said the campout is designed to help young people decide on career choices, prepare for job interviews and learn how to write a resume, among other things.

"A lot of times with our youth they might not be quite sure and understand about go get a job, but what do you mean as far as what type of job? What are my interests? What are my dreams? What do I want to be? How do I act in an interview to be able to secure a job?" Gabriel said.

She added that the campout will include games and prizes.

MERIL is a community-based, nonresidential program that's designed to promote independent living and enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities.
