LETTER: ARK will continue to search for facility

The Summerville Journal-Scene - 8/15/2017

To the Editor:

On behalf of The ARK of SC, Alzheimer’s Family Support Services, we would like to extend a warm thank you to all who supported us in our recent efforts to obtain a new place for our participants to enjoy meaningful cognitive activities such as socializing, art and music, and a warm atmosphere of care and understanding.

Though we had a major setback, we truly believe Summerville is a fantastic community for families of all ages. Out of the deepest respect for the residents of our town, we withdrew our application to amend the ordinance that would allow us to operate at our new home. We did so because The ARK is about providing the best care for the wonderful individuals who have been our friends, neighbors and colleagues.

Since 1996 we have been operating out of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church on Central Ave as an outreach ministry.

We have since grown to offer services in Harleyville on top of expanding our outreach to thirteen communities in our five-county service area. We realize that we need a larger space to operate out of.

While our first search resulted in some controversy, one undeniable truth arose from the situation, people on both sides of the location issue agreed that The ARK was a great asset to our community and they would all help to find a new place.

And that is why we are writing to you now. We will launch our capital campaign soon to help us secure a new place and we need your help and funds. Your offer of help and generosity blew us away. So here we are, hat in hand, asking for your help for those who need a new place to be cared for during the day and to help us fund it.

Summerville, we are forever in your debt for the amount of compassion you have so graciously shown us. We all know that we as a community, whether young or old, are so much stronger together and pushing to make each day a better day in our great town.

Please visit our website, www.thearkofsc.org to see all the services we offer and donate today. Please be a part of our capital campaign to help caregivers and care-receivers have a better quality of life.
