St. Peters resident heads to National Miss Amazing

St. Charles County Journal - 8/2/2017

Stephanee Corcoran, 36, of St. Peters, will head to Chicago on Aug. 5-7, to participate in the National Miss Amazing 2017, which showcases girls and women with disabilities and provides opportunities to build confidence and self-esteem in a supportive environment, according to a press release.

Corcoran was crowned the Miss Amazing Senior Division last November at a regional event to qualify for the national one.

Making it to the nationals was a dream come true for Corcoran, who has participated in the state event for five years. She kept telling people before the event she would never win a pageant and she could hardly believe it when she was announced the winner of her division.

"At first, I was shaky and a little nervous, but very excited," Corcoran said.

Recently, Corcoran participated in a Miss Amazing fundraising event at Kendra Scott at Plaza Frontenac. Twenty percent of jewelry sales during the event went to help provide transportation to Chicago. Her employer, Steak 'n Shake, also offered to put together a fundraiser for Miss Amazing.

Corcoran is supported by Bethesda Lutheran Communities, a Christian organization that provides homes and other services for people with developmental disabilities to help them live their best life. She lives in a Bethesda group home and staff there are supporting her as she prepares for nationals.

"We are being supportive and want to make sure Stephanee is comfortable and prepared for Miss Amazing," said Blossom Mahan, program manager for Corcoran's home. "She's had a pretty eventful and busy summer."

Corcoran and her mom recently did some shopping for dresses and costumes.

As for her talent, she will be dancing to "Honey, I'm Good" by Andy Grammer.
