BRIEF: Centralia's Futurus High School Building to Receive ADA Upgrades

Chronicle, The (Centralia, WA) - 6/30/2016

June 30--The building Futurus High School utilizes was recently found to have a number of Americans With Disabilities Act violations, but that will soon change after the Centralia City Council voted to award a contract to MDK Construction Inc. to fix the problems.

Centralia rents a portion of its Parks Maintenance Building to the alternative high school, which operates within the Centralia School District. After the building was inspected, it was found that nine doors did not meet ADA width requirements, doors did not have ADA equipped hardware, there was no ADA parking stalls and the concrete at the entrance of the building needed to be replaced.

City staff solicited bids from the Public Works Small Works Roster for the work and received one bid from MDK Construction Inc. in the amount of $24,249.05.

The money will be pulled from the Fort Borst Park Construction Fund.

Councilors approved the item in the consent agenda Tuesday night.

Staff will also install a basketball hoop for Futurus students, install concrete sidewalks and make a few other small improvements.

According to the public works agreement, the work will be completed by Aug. 12.
