Feds seek proposals to increase economic opportunities for people with disabilities

Brandon Sun, The (Manitoba, Canada) - 12/17/2014

The federal government has issued a call for proposals for its ongoing fund for people with disabilities.

Brandon-Souris MP Larry Maguire issued the invitation to local organizations -- both not-for-profit and for-profit -- to apply.

The Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities assists Canadians with disabilities to prepare for, obtain and keep employment, or become self-employed, to help them participate fully in the economy and increase their independence.

The call for proposals for national projects is open until Jan. 30.

Projects that target youth with disabilities and focus on work experience will be prioritized to help increase job opportunities.

An applicant guide for local and regional projects has also been revised for 2015-16.

"Organizations in southwestern Manitoba can now apply for support through the Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities, which will fund projects aimed at increasing the economic participation and independence of people with disabilities," Maguire said.
