North Creek nursing home files paperwork that may lead to closing

Post-Star - 4/12/2024

Apr. 11—NORTH CREEK — The Elderwood at North Creek, a skilled nursing facility, has filed paperwork with New York State in preparation for a potential financial disaster, but Johnsburg Town Supervisor Kevin Bean stressed that the filing does not necessarily mean closing.

"Paperwork has been filed, but that doesn't mean its closing," Bean told The Post-Star Wednesday. "At this point it really is in the hands of our governor and the department of health."

[The story has been updated, here. $2.5M needed or the nursing home closes, officials say.]

He was making a reference to the budget process underway in Albany.

Bean said the facility applied for a vital access provider grant with the New York Department of Health in February. It would provide the facility with the funding needed to continue operating, but as of Wednesday, had not received any word on its standing.

"Because we're in the midst of the budget and all the other hoo-ha that goes along with it, I'm kind of disappointed that they haven't been made, at least aware, of some movement on the grant front," he said.

A press event is scheduled for Thursday at the facility, where administrators will brief The Post-Star about the details surrounding the facility's situation. In the meantime however, Bean said he's having a hard time understanding it for himself.

"We have people in New York City that are here undocumented, that are receiving thousands and thousands of dollars from the state, and yet we can't seem to take care of our veterans or our elderly. I'm struggling to understand the logic behind that," he said. "This would be a crushing blow to Johnsburg and North Creek."

In 2018, the Adirondack Tri-Country Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center was renamed Elderwood at North Creek as Post Acute Partners of New York City bought the facility.

Attempts to reach management from Elderwood and Post Acute Partners were unsuccessful in time for this posting.

The Post-Star will be following up with this story.
