Sense of Science: Animals, model 1-08990-00 is a science tutorial program designed for use by children who are blind or have low vision. This multisensory program helps young students with vision disabilities understand animals through tactile / visual overlays. It is the second module of a series designed to help teachers make the world of science accessible, understandable, and enjoyable, for students with vision disabilities in grades Kindergarten to 3 and for other students who may benefit from a multisensory approach to learning. The kit includes a large print guidebook that describes activities to teach basic concepts related to animal life, and visual and tactile overlays designed to be used with a light box (not included) or as stand-alone materials. Overlays include Ant, Bird (Side View), Bird (Top View), Butterfly, Fish, Mouse, Spider, Snake, Turtle, Life Cycle of a Butterfly, Life Cycle of a Frog, Spider Web Construction, and Animal Tracks. Some overlays separate into parts to enable a student who is totally blind to identify various parts of an animal and to serve as an assessment tool. The kit also comes with two trays that slip under a light box ledge to provide a secure working area for manipulating the overlays, and a container that stores the guidebook, the two trays, and the overlays. Overlays are housed in clear pocket folders. OPTIONS: Additional print guidebook (model 7-08990-00); braille guidebook (model 5-08990-00).
